Pencil it in

This is a hoax. It has to be.http://www.8march2003.comIf I had a nickel for every time I've been tracked down by the "classified central processing agency" I'd be a millionare. Or was that the central classified processing agency? Update: November 2, 2002I found this link from a MetaFilter comment that basically shows that this type of hoax is hardly original.

I sent two email messages to the dope and this is a sumamry of both:"...I had to pry the back open with a screwdriver as the plastic section of the outer casing had melted then solidified over the cover. .."If you look at the back of the camera in the photo on the site, the back cover where you put the film is almost untouched and certainly not melted so as to solidify over the cover. The biggest problem you have is trying to convey too much information. You obviously know nothing about film which gives your "story" away as a work of fiction. The photo of the "negatives" posted on your web site are just that - negatives. Meaning they had already been developed. Undeveloped film coming right out of a camera does not look like the photo you posted. What you did was take negatives from film you developed and torched them a bit. Therefore, since the story about the film is untrue, the rest of your work is nothing but fiction, and a poor work of fiction at that. You need to make something somewhat believable if you plan on selling it commercially. Another problem is your story of being caught almost immediately upon plugging terms in a search engine and having "agents" show up to your residence almost immediately - both physically impossible, as in defying the laws of physics.

Negatives a give away. Section in lower part of pic has a depression in it. Ostensibly, the depression is caused by heating \ melting. It certainly looks like it is. However, in the middle of that depression is the frame boundary. I doubt that a film that had melted that much would develop to give such a clear boundary - in fact I doubt that a film that had melted that much would develop at all.

And a bit more - there appears to be 10 damaged negatives in the pic. They're damaged badly enough to not go in an enlarger for printing. 10 out of a max of 36...The exposed film in an SLR camera is wound onto a spindle, and then wound back into the film canister when the film is completed. Likelyhood of a 1/3 of the film wound onto that spindle melting, leaving 2/3s intact? Look again at pic of back of camera - it's intact. How did it get so hot inside to melt the film, but not the camera back?

This started showing up on Usenet from "two" people on Oct 16. I say "two" because both happen to be posting to a dozen newsgroups related to conspiracies from the same dialup in Melbourne. One is a hotmail account, Jimbo50055@hotmail.com, which is bogus:rcpt to:550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailableThe other is gintilas@siginysis.com, and siginysis.com is registered with the same registrar (godaddy.com) that 8march2003.com is registered with.George Gintilas of Melbourne started posting to Usenet about the site on the 16th as himself, and on the same day decided he should post about it from a fake Hotmail account instead. George has never posted to Usenet before from either of the addresses he posted with on the 16th, although he knows about Usenet, having posted there occasionally in '97 and '00. He's a new-ager with a "Radix" consultancy (www.siginysis.com). The language on the site doesn't strike me as American. I'm not sure if there are any Australianisms in it.My money's on George.

I don't think he's Australian. On the actual website, the word color is spelt as "color." whereas in Australia color is spelt as "colour" Maybe he hid his tracks in spelling, but to my guess he's not that good at covering up, therefore the aussie guy is not the same as the guy who made the webpage

Well, I guess it's a hoax. You guys prove some very powerful points here. good job.

I'm Aussie and have been one for sometime and I for one would know that Australians spell Color as "Colour" or "Color"!!!

Both are used~
So just because he wrote Color doesn't mean his not Australian!

In this guys posting he refers to the Ark as Biblical. Well first of all if you beleive there was a great flood in the first place then you obviously beleive the Bible is true. If you would take the time to actually read the Bible you would know that when Noah finally landed God made a promise to all man that he would never flood the earth again. He also made the first rainbow as a reminder of this. And if you read the Bible you would also know that God has never broken a promise. Ever. So with this information I dub this site a hoax.
