Donald Rumsfeld, our Secretary of Defense, is a poet and didn't even know it.
Portions of his off-the-cuff statements at Defense Briefings have been dug up and reprinted showing off the hidden poetic nature that is Donald Rumsfeld.
These are his exact words, not conjecture of what he might say.
From The Poetry of D.H. Rumsfeld, here's my favorite:
The UnknownPosted by drake at April 5, 2003 08:54 AM
As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don't know
We don't know.
Don,
Lets post something more original, I read that an article like a week ago, possible some of your own poetry, heres a poem I wrote:
As we don't know
There are not known knowns
There are not things we know we know.
We also don't know
There are not known unknowns
That is to not say
We don't know there are some things
We do know
But there are also not unknown unknowns,
The ones we do know
We know.
Rumsfeld knows what others don't
.. how many animal tortured by Searle,
his pharmaceutical co. .. before sold
to Monsanto
God take him out of power today
Posted by: fish rights on May 1, 2003 06:02 PMGod this man's my hero! He's so powerful, We shooudl start calling him Darth Rumsfeld or something you know? The way he just walks onto his new Irapi land, in baghdad (any1 notice his hand up, like the Hyle). He's such a powerful guy.
Posted by: Ben on May 1, 2003 06:07 PMUnfortunately Rumsfeld did not invent this saying. The concept of known unknowns and unknown unknowns has been around for at least 2 years or more. See article by George Will, January 2, 2001. At least we know he is well versed.
