The Pool is not open

I updated the Internet Football Pool site with a message stating my reasons why the site will not be up and running this year. It really was a tough decision to make, but I think it was the right one.IFP Players and anyone else can write comments and questions here instead of emailing me directly.

One tall Fucka

This Fucka just might make it in the NBA.

Newspaper reports in Italy say the Indiana Pacers are close to finalizing a three-year, $7 million contract with European star Gregor Fucka.Pacers team president Donnie Walsh said that's hardly the case."This is all very, very premature," Walsh said Monday morning while watching the final day of rookie and free agent minicamp at Conseco Fieldhouse. "I've had preliminary conversations but we're nowhere close to a deal."Fucka, a 7-1 swingman from Slovenia and two-time European Player of the Year, plays for Fortitudo Bologna of the Italian League.

Bad example

What are some people thinking? This pastor and his twin brother beat up a little kid for an hour and a half because he was misbehaving in his Bible class according to police.

The child was at a Bible study program when he angered Joshua Thompson so much that he was removed from class. Joshua and his brother allegedly took Louie to Caleb Thompson's house for the beating, where they turned up the radio to cover the child's cries, police said. The two men then took Louie back to his home, where they met his mother and stepfather and said they had a "big problem." Joshua Thompson told the boy's stepfather that he should "beat Louie for two more hours" to fix it."Do it!" Thompson said three times, according to court papers. Thompson said he would not allow Louie back to the church, so his bad example could not affect the other children. After the Thompsons left, Louie's mother and stepfather discovered bruises and cuts covering the child's entire back, with bruises on his head, neck buttocks and legs.
I believe the punishment for the pastor should be: An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth.

Bullseye

This is a great picture taken by an Irish photographer covering the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. The photographer was not injured, rather the camera was wrapped in bubble wrap and the picture was taken via a remote.

In a load of trouble...

Packers rookie Najeh Davenport was arrested Monday, accused of breaking into a university dormitory and defecating in a woman's closet.

According to police, Davenport crept into a dorm room at Barry University around 6 a.m. on April 1. A woman sleeping in the room, Mary McCarthy, told police she was startled by a strange sound and saw Davenport squatting in her closet. Davenport then allegedly defecated in a laundry basket, McCarthy told detectives.

John Sidgmore is a fraud.

Looks like Worldcom will become the next Enron, but it's still too soon to see if Andersen had anything to do with it.I missed the press conference with John Sidgmore, but from what I read about it, this guy is a snake. The Chicago Tribune has an article about the press conference with Sidgmore distancing himself from "the previous administration".

"While the deeds we uncovered were part of the past administration, I want to apologize here today on behalf of everyone at WorldCom," Sidgmore said. The company's new management team and more than 60,000 employees shared the public's shock at the company's recent financial revelations, he said.Sidgmore replaced former Chairman Bernard Ebbers, who was fired in April from the company he largely built."I am responsible for what we do now and for what we do in the future, and what we're going to do is fully investigate any past transgression and move forward in a completely open and honest manner," Sidgmore said.
Hmm, the past administration... right. Sounds like this guy started working at Worldcom in April, and he's here to fix the mess made by the people that came before him. Mr. Sidgmore seems to forget that he worked at Worldcom as a director since 1996. Here's a quote from the 2000 Worldcom annual report (p.138):
John W. Sidgmore, 50, has been the Vice Chairman of the Board and a director of WorldCom since December 1996. From December 1996 until the MCI merger, Mr. Sidgmore served as Chief Operations Officer of WorldCom. Mr. Sidgmore was President and Chief Operating Officer of MFS Communications Company, Inc. from August 1996 until December 1996. He was Chief Executive Officer of UUNET Technologies, Inc. from June 1994 until October 1998, and President of UUNET from June 1994 to August 1996 and from January 1997 to September 1997. Mr. Sidgmore is a director of MicroStrategy Incorporated.
This guy used to be the COO, it's not like he wasn't in the loop. His statements are nothing more than CYA on the grandest of scales. It seems the term "fiduciary responsibility" doesn't apply to Mr. Sidgmore, as well as being honest and forthright about this situation he is in. Or will it take a subpeona from Congress for him to talk straight - granted he doesn't hide behind the 5th Amendment.I'm sure this is just the beginning of more Worldcom bullshit to be thrown to shareholders. Mr. Sidgmore, start getting used to thicker pinstripes.

Wimbledon

I think every womens' tennis match at Wimbledon should start and end with a kiss. It's not like there's anything wrong with it.
