Annika Sorenstam tees off this morning at the Colonial. All eyes will be on her, watching each shot and each putt. Annika says she's doing this as a challenge to herself.
Some have criticized her for playing out of her league. I can't criticize her for that, she's trying to move up and play at a higher level. Unfortunately, some men golfers have attempted to play on the LPGA tour, which is the dumbest thing I've heard of. Maybe they should try signing up for the Women's Shotgun tournament at their local country club while they're at it.
Annika, as good as she is on the LPGA tour, will come to learn how competitive the PGA tour really is. I predict she won't make the cut but will not come in last place. Golf isn't a fair sport when both men and women play, that's why there are ladies tees. I'll also predict that it won't be her driving or iron game that hurts her, it will be her putting.
She's certainly not the first woman to play on the PGA tour, and certainly won't be the last. Babe Didrikson Zaharias, called the Greatest Woman Athlete of the 20th Century played in 1945. She also didn't make the cut. It might take another 54 years for it to happen again, but that shows you the difference between men and women playing golf.
